The island of Korčula is one of the most beautiful and biggest of the thousand islands in Croatia. It is 46.8 km long, and is 276 km2 in area. From the mainland of the Pelješac peninsula it is divided by only 1,270 metres. The coastline of the island is 182 km long, and it is enriched by195 virgin coves and capes, while there are actually 48 islets in the Korčula archipelago. Measurements show that the island of Korčula has about 3,000 hours of sunshine a year.
